PROGRESS
WITH THE NEW CHURCH HALL Click here to
see plans
After
a bit of a
struggle
to satisfy English Heritage, the District Council, and the Church
Authorities permission was finally granted for building work and
A.E.Bullock Ltd of Bulls Green commenced work on the contract to
construct the fabric of the new hall. Thanks to the help given by
many in the village, both by giving to the Appeal and by attending the
many events we have held, the PCC had the confidence to proceed with
the work although they still have to raise about £25,000 to
finish and equip the building.
This seems
the
right time to re-assess the value the hall will be to
the village community as well as to the church congregation. Our
aim is to use the hall as much as possible for the general benefit of
the Parish, without competing with the much more extensive
facilities provided in the village hall. Some of the activities
which we see it being used for, are:
- A new young peoples group for 11 –
14 yr
olds.
- An elderly peoples lunch club.
- Coffee, tea etc for parents waiting for
children involved in after school activities, on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Weekly ‘open door’ in the morning
for
parents who have taken children to school to meet for coffee and a chat.
- Meeting place for small groups, clubs and
societies.
- Meeting place for families involved in
weddings, funerals and baptisms.
- Facilities for visitors travelling to
events in
the Church.
- Increased Sunday Club facilities.
- Crèche for infants whilst parents
attend
Church.
- Discussion groups.
- A venue for parish events such as a
Christmas
Market, Card sales, Harvest suppers, Children’s parties etc.
In
addition it will
be invaluable for many Church events, meetings and
hospitality as well as a venue for the priest to meet parishioners.
In order to
complete the project your help is essential. Yes we
do need money and any contributions will be most gratefully accepted,
as will interest free loans, but we also need help at a practical
level. To make the project feasible we will have to finish many
aspects of the building and its surroundings ourselves. We will need
help with painting and decorating, kitchen fitting and floor finishes
and outside with staining the boarding, landscaping, planting and the
construction of footpaths. So, if you have skill in any of these
fields and can spare some time it will be greatly appreciated.
Finally, we
want
this to be a Parish facility for use by the Church and
wider Village community so please help us with:
- Your ideas for ways in which it can be
used,
- Your assistance in getting it finished.
Thanks for all your help and encouragement.
