Welcome to All Saints - Datchworth 's Parish Church
"I am the Light of the World"

The central modern window in the north aisle is the work of local artist Maria Glenn and was commissioned in 2000 to mark the beginning of a new millennium. It was paid for by donations from the village.

The inspiration for this window is light. Jesus said "I am the Light of the World." The imagery in this window could be used for a quiet time of prayer and reflection -

The Light of Christ reaches out to all peoples, to each of us, bringing new life and new understanding; reaching into, warming and lightening the darkness. The Light spreads into every corner of the world. It has the power to transform the closed and darker parts of ourselves, our hidden wounds, shames, sorrows and confusion. We are invited to open the whole of ourselves, just as we are, to His Light.

If you have the time to sit with this window you may find that it has a particular meaning for you ‑ maybe you can see a part of yourself that is in the light; a part of yourself there in the dark colours, not yet ready for the light of day, but needing the warmth and compassion that the light of Christ also brings.

What about the bright red jewels? Are they the wounds that still need healing; are they your gifts and joys; or what? Find your own meaning in this window, as you listen to Christ whisper:  “I am the Light for you”.

Help us also Lord to see your light in others that we may truly bring that light into our world.
