| Your
Wedding at All Saints
|
|
Congratulations on your
decision to be married, and we're delighted that your wedding is at All
Saints. We hope very much that it will feel not just like getting
married in a building, but in a village and church community that is
there to support you and celebrate with you.
Please contact our Team Rector, Rev Dr David Munchin
- 01438 714150 - for an All Saints Wedding Pack. This includes two
copies (one for you to complete and return and
one to keep) of the current list of fees for weddings. Also enclosed
will be details of flower arrangements
that can be organised for you - click
here to view details, and of the
Hertfordshire
Chorus who can provide choir members
- click here to view details -
(we
sadly do not have a church choir of our own at present). Please make
direct contact for flowers and/or choir as indicated on these sheets.
Also included in the pack are details (two copies) of the
Deanery Marriage Preparation Course (this is the "Relate
Course" referred to in the fees sheet). Please complete both
copies of the course form and return to the address given on it.
A few further points (which you may know already!):
Reading of the
banns
This is still a legal requirement, and can only be done within three
months of your wedding. You will need to complete form MB1 and return
it to one of the Church Wardens. This form can be downloaded in
pdf format and printed by clicking
here.
Obviously, your banns need to be read in Datchworth - it's easiest (and
safest!) if you ring one of the Church Wardens during the week before
the Sunday you want them to start. They have to be read on three
consecutive Sundays - it's worth hearing them read at least once - if
only to make sure they're right! If one of you has an address in
another parish, you need to contact the priest of that Anglican parish,
and ask him or her to read your banns in that church, too (not the same
three Sundays necessarily). After they've been read there you collect a
certificate which you bring to the Team Vicar sometime
before your service.
Planning your
service
The minister who has agreed to take your wedding service will contact
you to arrange to meet up and plan the service. Certainly don't commit
anything to a service sheet until you've had a chat with him or her as
there are a few options for you to choose - how many hymns, parts for
the congregation to join in, where and when you sign the register etc.
And you don't have to have service sheets, most hymns are in our books,
so it may even be an unnecessary expense. If you're planning anything
unusual musically, or if you just want a bit of advice, have a chat
with our organist, Bob King (01438 814147).
Paying for the
service
It's boring, we know, but since the wedding fees get split several
ways, we'd appreciate your paying the whole sum in cash, and bring it
to your wedding rehearsal. Speaking of which....
Rehearsing the
service
The minister taking your service will try to arrange a rehearsal for
your wedding one evening (or daytime) in the week beforehand. It's
really very straightforward, you never have to remember anything, and
it's mostly a matter of taking away 'wedding day nerves'. For which
reason, we really, - really prefer to have the rehearsal with just you
two - even the nicest relations can make you feel more nervous rather
than less, and they really have nothing to rehearse! If there are more
than one couple getting married around the same time, we usually fix an
evening to get together and compare nervous notes.
Collection at
the service
There's a collection plate at the door on your wedding day, of course,
but we think it's rather nice if the money goes to a charity that you
have chosen. So please give a thought to a charity you'd like to
nominate that has special meaning for you or your family.
Do give one of us a ring if there's anything else you need to know. And
we'll try to make your wedding both as smooth and as exciting as
possible.
