Luke 4.1-13
Today’s
collect: Almighty
God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and
was tempted as we are, yet without sin: give us grace to discipline
ourselves in obedience to your Spirit; and, as you know our weakness,
so may we know your power to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our
Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Future at All
Saints
– The Archdeacon of Hertford led a
key meeting at the School last
Tuesday evening to discuss the future pattern of ministry for
Datchworth and the adjoining villages.
As
Bob King was not well enough to attend, Anne Charles (Church Warden)
was supported by John Glanville (PCC Secretary) and Lynda Dent (Deanery
and Diocesan Representative). The meeting was attended by ministers and
representatives from Welwyn, Woolmer Green, Ayot and Tewin. Positive
discussion focused on a team approach for these villages with a
minister living in Datchworth.
The
detail of any such arrangement is key and the Archdeacon has called a
second meeting for this Monday (1st March) where he will present a
draft proposal.
Please
pray that the right person will be called and found to minister with us
in Datchworth and that a wise structure will be agreed to support the
future that God has planned for us.
We
will keep you posted. If you have any views you would like considered,
Bob or I will be pleased to have a chat – Anne Charles – 01438 812098
- Bob King – 01438 814147.
Lent Course
– 20+ people have signed up – there is still time to add your name to
the
list. Please call Anne Charles (01438 812098) about joining this year’s
course so that we have numbers for catering and groups.
The five sessions, which will be held
on every Tuesday evening in March, will be at the school starting at
7.30pm with supper. Please bring your own crockery and cutlery (and
take it a way for washing up!). Also volunteers to Anne to
provide fruit and cheese for the sweet would be welcome. Our
thanks to Diana Glanville for offering to cook the main course for us
each week.
The course will replace Evening Talk Time during Lent. We will be using
the York Courses Lent material, this year entitled -
Fish
& Chip Supper Evenings -

Great evenings! – many thanks to Jean and John Austin and all their
helpers – over £500 raised toward the cost of the new Church Hall
– and thanks to all who made these “sell-out” evenings.

Paving the way – great progress! John Glanville will
no doubt let us know when our sentence continues.

Update on Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sale
– On Monday 16 February 2004, Amy, Megan, Claire, Becky, Emma
and David, regulars at All Saints Sunday Club, held a Blue
Peter Bring and Buy Sale for disabled children who want to go to
out of school
clubs. They have now raised the grand total of over £70 - well
done Sunday Club members.
Here
they are ready for the doors to open as they start their sale

Peter Appeal.
Newcomers To The Village - If
you are new to the Village or know someone who has moved here in the
last 2 years, since our last Newcomers Party, do let Mary Coleman
know -
Telephone - 01438 814228 or e-mail magazine.ed@allsaintsdatchworth.info.
She also asks that, if you
are submitting a name to her, you check that the newcomer is not
someone who has just moved within the village. This does happen
as we can not know everyone in Datchworth It can be very embarrassing
and, in some cases, upsetting to issue an invitation to a so called
newcomer only to be informed that they have lived in the village for 19
years or so!
Unfortunately, owing to the hard drive on Mary's last computer going
down, she lost the names she had on her list (13 as it happens).
She would be greatly obliged if the folk who have already given her
names could let her know again. She does apologise for having to ask
you to do this and says, "in future I will ensure that I copy my list
onto a floppy disk to be on the safe side!".
Christian Aid – New
co-ordinator for Datchworth is needed urgently. Please contact Anne
Charles – 01438 812098. Our best wishes to Betty Clark who has had to
stand down due to ill health.
Talking
Books – If you know of anyone who could make use of some
Talking Books please call Peter Brown on 01438 814234
Tour Israel - 20 to 31 March 2004 - A
Shoresh Study Tour - Rev Ray
Lockhart and his wife Jill will be hosting a tour to Israel in March
this year. Ray was
previously Rector of St. Martin's Church Knebworth and later Rector of
Christchurch, Jerusalem. It is a recommended tour as both Ray and Jill
have an intimate knowledge of Israel.

raise funds for the completion of All Saints’ church hall, will be held
on the evening of Saturday 27th March 2004. Please book the date in
your diary and start getting your team organised.
Sponsored
Slim in aid of the new church hall - Rev
Mike Shaw and Tony Charles continue to loose weight – over a stone
and three-quarters between them so far + 5 slimming awards! Mike even
sought out a Slimming World class in Norwich as he was away there on
business! Now that is dedication. Please be generous with
sponsoring these good causes!
Abbey
Teas – We have another opportunity to put on teas in the
St Albans Abbey Refectory, half the proceeds going toward the costs
of completing All Saints’ church hall and the other to the Abbey.
Please let me know if you can help on the afternoon of Sunday 4th April
2004 – Anne Charles – 01438 812098.
Talk
Time – During March the evening group is replaced
by "Tough Talk for Lent" -
see above. The afternoon group continues to meet on Thursdays - this
week on 4th March 2004 at
1.30pm at 17 Raffin Park. All are very welcome to join these informal
groups.
Lock out at All Saints!
- If you are last out of the church, please make sure that the
bolted leaf of the door is bolted. If it is not the doors can jam as
they did recently for three days. We are back in thanks to John
Glanville who has added locksmithing to his endless range of practical
skills.

hope that you will find the content and links helpful and
